Palau Hotel Has More To Offer Now Than Before
Friday, April 10, 2009
But, being an economy hotel offering budget hotel rooms to divers and tourists alike, Palau Hotel can go as low as the rates that it currently offers. By booking through email or by calling tel no. (680) 488-1703 or 488-1704, everyone gets 20% discount from the regular rack rate in every type of room. The prices are really practical which is sure to be within the budget of every diver or tourist. We also know that price does not determine making your vacation or visit to Palau memorable, that’s why we make sure to give you a step ahead starting with a place to stay.
For now, Palau Hotel (F&B Palau Hotel) gives free airport pick & drop service for guests who booked via email or overseas call, is equipped with a Solar Water Heater so guests can have hot & cold shower every time throughout their stay, free internet access at the hotel lobby (bring your own laptop, not wireless but connection is much better), its own satellite dish for TV channels, refrigerator with free bottled mineral water, a hot and cold purified water dispenser, phone lines (no charges for local calls, for overseas you have to purchase a Debusch Card for $10), complimentary toiletries and use of safety deposit box at the hotel front desk for free. Just recently a power generator was purchased to ensure a continous power supply in times of power outages.
Stop waiting anymore, plan for your next dive destination in Palau, now! There is no better way to enjoy more dives than starting with getting the most practical hotel room price in Palau without comprising the amenities you need.

Lights are ON with POWER GENERATOR in Palau Hotel
Power outages in the island country of Palau are not a common thing, but when it does have blackouts on certain areas, it is a serious problem that needs to be remedied at once. Palau’s power is generated and distributed by Palau Public Utilities Corp. (PPUC) with power generators located in Malakal plant. But, just recently a couple of PPUC’s power engines broke down and problems in the power line from Aimeliik (a state in Palau) to Koror has caused power outages in some areas of Koror.
Since Monday of this week (April 6, 2009), a power rationing schedule is being followed thereby Ikelau Hamlet were Palau Hotel is located is scheduled to have power failure by 5:00pm to 9:00pm until PPUC could fix the problem, which according to them is within 2 weeks. Of course, hotels whether luxurious or economy like Palau Hotel and other businesses cannot let this particular problem hamper current operations. And though the power outage was scheduled at 5pm-9pm everyday (aside from power outages in the mornings, said to be emergencies), just 4 hours actually, you could only imagine what we all have to put up with.
A funny thing actually, we have anticipated the power to go off as scheduled at 5:00pm that day, so we could try how the generator works, but to everyone’s surprise, it did not! We were thinking perhaps the problem with PPUC's underwater cables in KB bridge has been fixed or any problem causing the power outages for that matter, but then again, it was not!
The power came off again yesterday Friday, April 10, 2009 at around 4: pm (an hour early from the released power outage rationing schedule). It took a little while for the generator to supply power since they had to finish the installation and stuffs. After that it was lights on again. Regular power came back on at around 9:00pm.
Now, Palau Hotel guests can be assured that they won’t have to endure hours of blackouts when these times come. With the power generator, there is no need to fret using candles and hand fans during blackouts. But don’t get us wrong, we do hope PPUC can fix whatever power problems this beautiful island country has.

From Palau Hotel, a diver's hotel in Palau: Biking in Palau 在帛琉, 骑自行车 and taking pictures along the way
Thursday, February 26, 2009
Biking around Koror- In Palau i found one bike shop that offers bike rental and is just a few steps away from Palau Hotel (帛琉饭店), a diver's hotel in Palau that offers the lowest hotel rates to divers and palau travelers. The bike shop is closed in the morning and only opens around 7:00 pm daily (though i'm not sure if they're open on Sundays). Biking is a lot of fun and for those who are into exercise while having fun would never mind waiting until late afternoon to get themselves a bike.
We usually go bike riding to the nearby places and ocassionaly bring with us a camera. You really never know when you'd see a beautiful spot worthy of your shot.
Palau is a small country consisting of a number of islands. Life here is simple and time passes slowly . Naturally everything follows, no rush hours unlike so many other countries. Here, we live like most of the people around the world only here we do it the island way. Most of the weekends and holidays are spent enjoying the clear blue waters of Palau. Now what could be more exciting than biking your way around Koror, Palau.
When biking, it is recommended to equip yourself with additional protection by wearing a bike helmet. For everyone here, clothes are simple, shirts and shorts are handy, wear slippers or snickers, shades will do and a hat too if you're up to it. The sun is at its hottest most of the days of the week so don't forget your sunblock as you go have fun under the sun.
Transportation is also not a problem here in Koror, Palau. Taxis can be found at the parking lots or just a phone call away. In fact, just outside Palau Hotel a Palau traveler can get a taxi or ask a hotel front desk to call a taxi for them. Riding a boat is the only way to get from one island to another or a tourist bus if you join a land tour group. My point is, if you're not into biking there are other means to go around the area.
Going north from the center of Koror (both an island and state), takes a lot of my stamina, but knowing where i want to go makes me endure cycling my bike passing the ups and downs of the main road.
North of Koror- You probably have seen the KB Bridge (stands for Koror Babeldaob). Babeldaob is the biggest island and where others states can be found. I've taken this picture at the left side of the bridge (crossing Babeldaop side). I found the area so picturesque and the combination of white, blue and green is so beautiful that I was like looking into a great painting.
These pictures were all taken in going to Malakal, the south of Koror. The first picture is a Bai, its a meeting house in the history of Palau were their leaders meet and plan actions that should be taken for their tribes. This Bai was inside the Narchamayong (a cultural center). The third picture are the small islands you will see on the right side in going Malakal, just a few meters away from Long Island Park (soon to be Palau National Park). It's a sight to behold. The picture on the middle is a lone tree i saw at the Long Island Park.
The picture scribbled with Palau is one i took while we were in Rip Tide, a beach resort near the south end of Koror. The sky was partly cloudy so the sun was still in hiding even at around 9:30 am that Sunday morning. And lastly, here is a glimpse of a rock island here in Palau. Mushroom shaped and uninhabited. A Palau Traveler gets to see a lot more of this when they visit Palau Rock Islands.
Either way, you are sure to witness the beauty that Palau is now beginning to be known. Palau, one of the best dive spots in the world!

Burger House (汉堡店), Palau- DELIGHTFUL SNACKS (好小吃) in Palau
Tuesday, February 17, 2009
Even in the island country of Palau there are restaurants where you could go and dine or take out some snacks to fill your just about hungry stomach. But, there are times when you just want to choose from a short list of menu, pay at once to a smiling staff, grab your snacks and start enjoying it. That's exactly what Burger House (汉堡店), does. No hassles of repeating your orders twice or thrice. Just pick your choice from the menu posted on their sliding door and voila there you go!
Just in case you come to Palau and you would want to visit this small snack house called the Burger House(汉堡店), , it's actually located just right across WCTC Shopping Center in Koror. To make it a lot more easier, if you are staying at Palau Hotel 帛琉飯店 (F&B Palau Hotel) it's a few steps away from the front door going to the space where taxies occupy for parking. You'll see a snack house painted in yellow, yup in yellow paint with a table and bench also painted in yellow.
Before, the snack bar used to have a sign board that says Chicken with Salt, hence, a lot of customers have begun calling the place as Chicken with Salt! The thing is Chicken with Salt was one of their best selling items especially to tourists who drop by the area. Now, you'll see Burger House on the sign board with a blue lighted big cup with straw.
With the weather here in Palau there's probably not a week without a big rain, but when it's sunny, it can be way too hot and you would want to squench your thirst or go for something cold and sweet. You should also try their Halo-Halo, its a Philippine sweet delicacy of mixed fruits with milk and crushed ice sometimes topped with ice cream.
It's a stop over at the Burger House (汉堡店), Koror Palau to grab your snacks and refreshments.
They also sell PNCC Debusch Cards (电话卡) telephone cards, Airtime and PMC (手機充值卡) cellpone recharge cards, all at a discounted price.
Visit Burger House (汉堡店) when you come to Koror, Palau and discover that fast and light snacks are also enjoyable, the island way!

Ice Box Park (Koror, Palau) - A New, Clean & Fresh Look
Friday, January 16, 2009
Unlike Long Island Park (Koror, Palau) which is also located just after Malakal Bridge (first corner to the left) in Koror where people can visit, swim, snorkel or just enjoy for FREE, Ice Box Park (Palau) may not be a place where people usually go for swimming or snorkeling (at least at the times that I've visited, i didn't see anyone), but it has its own share of marine beauty. I for one have not gone snorkeling in this place, but have spent some time relaxing and watching birds catch fish for food. People flock to this place for fishing or just sit and relax or watch the setting sun.
Ice Box Park got its name from the ice plant found in the area that produces ice for fishermen and the people of Palau., hence the name Ice Box.
It was not so long ago that volunteers have devoted their time in cleaning the surroundings of Ice Box Park especially the waters. The clean up drive was a great idea, praises and thanks to the people who have organized the underwater clean up event, to the divers and people who have voluntered to help. Pounds of wastes like plastics and beer/soda cans, bottles and more odd items were taken out of the water and gave the park a new fresh and clean look.
Now, some of the most memorable picnics and gatherings can be set at the Ice Box Park (Koror, Palau).

Palau: Palau International Airport
Palau International Airport, being the one and only aiport in Palau do have a lot of names, sometimes they call it the Koror Aiport, Airai Airport or Babeldaob Airport. Situated at Babeldaob, the biggest island of Palau in Airai State, the second most populated state of this island country.
Continental airlines has scheduled flights coming to Palau from Manila, Guam and Yap and has an office located in Koror near the Police station, just a walking distance from Palau Hotel (F&B Palau Hotel).
After going through the procedures of arrival at the Palau International Airport and passing the customs area, the Palau traveler goes to the ARRIVAL waiting area where travel agencies, dive shops and hotel staffs are waiting for their guests. This is also where a lady/ladies from Palau tourism (i guess) hands you a copy of ALII Palau booklet, take it please. It's one way of knowing the where, what and how(s) here in the beautiful islands of Palau.
This is also where a Palau traveler takes a quick search among the waiting crowd for a person who holds a piece of paper or board with his name written. If you spot it, it's your cue, that's your pick up.
The Palau Hotel blue Serena van used for pick and drop airport service. When you book your reservations to Palau Hotel via email or overseas local, you can avail of the 20% discount on hotel rooms, free pick and drop airport service and free internet use at the hotel lobby (bring your own laptop, please). Palau Hotel (Koror, Palau) Tel no. (680) 488-1703/1704, Fax no. (680) 488-4883.
Just outside the Palau International Airport entrance you will find a row of Palau flags in blue color with a yellow circle a little off the center. The area in front is the parking lot.
The next picture is a painting. You see this at the ceiling right at the entrance of the Palau International Airport building. Either you came to Palau or going out, try to look up the ceiling and witness the mural painted by Wyland, an American renowned artist of the sea. Wyland also painted the mural a Palau Traveler can find at the Etpison Museum, a must-visit Palau tourist spot located at Koror, the business center of Palau.
