Ice Box Park (Koror, Palau) - A New, Clean & Fresh Look
Friday, January 16, 2009
Unlike Long Island Park (Koror, Palau) which is also located just after Malakal Bridge (first corner to the left) in Koror where people can visit, swim, snorkel or just enjoy for FREE, Ice Box Park (Palau) may not be a place where people usually go for swimming or snorkeling (at least at the times that I've visited, i didn't see anyone), but it has its own share of marine beauty. I for one have not gone snorkeling in this place, but have spent some time relaxing and watching birds catch fish for food. People flock to this place for fishing or just sit and relax or watch the setting sun.
Ice Box Park got its name from the ice plant found in the area that produces ice for fishermen and the people of Palau., hence the name Ice Box.
It was not so long ago that volunteers have devoted their time in cleaning the surroundings of Ice Box Park especially the waters. The clean up drive was a great idea, praises and thanks to the people who have organized the underwater clean up event, to the divers and people who have voluntered to help. Pounds of wastes like plastics and beer/soda cans, bottles and more odd items were taken out of the water and gave the park a new fresh and clean look.
Now, some of the most memorable picnics and gatherings can be set at the Ice Box Park (Koror, Palau).

Palau: Palau International Airport
Palau International Airport, being the one and only aiport in Palau do have a lot of names, sometimes they call it the Koror Aiport, Airai Airport or Babeldaob Airport. Situated at Babeldaob, the biggest island of Palau in Airai State, the second most populated state of this island country.
Continental airlines has scheduled flights coming to Palau from Manila, Guam and Yap and has an office located in Koror near the Police station, just a walking distance from Palau Hotel (F&B Palau Hotel).
After going through the procedures of arrival at the Palau International Airport and passing the customs area, the Palau traveler goes to the ARRIVAL waiting area where travel agencies, dive shops and hotel staffs are waiting for their guests. This is also where a lady/ladies from Palau tourism (i guess) hands you a copy of ALII Palau booklet, take it please. It's one way of knowing the where, what and how(s) here in the beautiful islands of Palau.
This is also where a Palau traveler takes a quick search among the waiting crowd for a person who holds a piece of paper or board with his name written. If you spot it, it's your cue, that's your pick up.
The Palau Hotel blue Serena van used for pick and drop airport service. When you book your reservations to Palau Hotel via email or overseas local, you can avail of the 20% discount on hotel rooms, free pick and drop airport service and free internet use at the hotel lobby (bring your own laptop, please). Palau Hotel (Koror, Palau) Tel no. (680) 488-1703/1704, Fax no. (680) 488-4883.
Just outside the Palau International Airport entrance you will find a row of Palau flags in blue color with a yellow circle a little off the center. The area in front is the parking lot.
The next picture is a painting. You see this at the ceiling right at the entrance of the Palau International Airport building. Either you came to Palau or going out, try to look up the ceiling and witness the mural painted by Wyland, an American renowned artist of the sea. Wyland also painted the mural a Palau Traveler can find at the Etpison Museum, a must-visit Palau tourist spot located at Koror, the business center of Palau.
